How to use this RAMS template
The examples show the level of detail to aim for. Replace them with decisions based on your activity, site, equipment and people.

Download and save your project copy
Open the .docx file in Microsoft Word. Save a copy with your project name, activity and revision number so you can identify the current version.

Replace the light-grey examples
Enter your business, work location, dates, scope and affected people. Replace each “e.g.” entry with your own information. Add rows for additional hazards; explain any section that does not apply. Change completed text to your normal text colour.

Assess hazards and choose controls
Examine the actual work and speak with the people doing it. Describe who could be harmed and how, then specify controls. Enter your own likelihood and severity scores; calculate each rating as likelihood x severity. Example scores are illustrative, and the Word document does not calculate them automatically.

Write the method and supporting arrangements
Describe the work in order: preparation, checks, execution, completion and handover. Assign each step to a role. Complete the equipment, substances, emergency and health-surveillance sections, referencing any separate assessments or plans.

Review it, brief the team and verify controls
Have someone competent for the work check the assessment. Assign outstanding actions and complete critical controls before starting. Explain the safe method, check understanding and record the briefing.

Keep it current as the work changes
Check that controls work in practice. Reassess affected parts when the task, conditions or equipment change, or when incidents or ineffective controls show a review is needed. Update the version and brief the team on changes.

Is this RAMS template really free?
Yes. Download the Word document without an account, email address or payment. The Site-Ready Passport is a separate product you can explore if you want help preparing and managing your documents across projects.
Can I edit the template in Microsoft Word?
Yes. It is an editable .docx file with ordinary text and tables. Replace the light-grey examples, add or remove rows and save your project version. The file has been checked for opening, editing and saving in Microsoft Word.
Does it include a risk assessment and a method statement?
Yes. The risk register records hazards and controls, while the safe working method table sets out the sequence of work and applicable roles. The document also includes supporting arrangements and review records.
Can I use the example risk scores for my job?
The scores demonstrate how the columns work. Assess your own task and controls before choosing scores. A numerical rating does not establish that work is safe, and the template does not calculate scores automatically.
Can I reuse it on another construction project?
You can reuse the structure, but check and update the assessment for the new site, task, equipment, workforce and interfaces. Keep a separate, identifiable project copy and review it before use.
Is this an HSE-approved RAMS template?
No. This is a DocRide template, not an HSE-approved document. Downloading or completing it does not certify compliance or replace a suitable assessment by people competent for the work.
